My book buying ban

Hi everyone! So I have decided that I am putting myself on a book buying ban. The reason for this is I just don’t have the money to be constantly buying books and I live right by the local library so I want to borrow books rather than buying them. I will say that the rules aren’t hugely strict as I am excluding books I already have on pre-order as they will come out of my wage for this month that I will put automatically onto my amazon account. Here are my rules:

  • I will not buy any new books unless they are from the charity shop for £1.
  • I will only read books I own, have received as an ARC from netgalley or borrowed from the library (excluding four pre-orders).

I hope to possibly keep this ban until the end of august. Its a big task but I am up to the challenge. With that, I thought I would share the books that I will be reading over this time broken down into books I own, ARCs, pre-orders and library books.

Books I own
Burn for burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian
Fantastic beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald
One hundred names by Cecelia Ahern
Rule of one by Ashley Saunders and Leslie Saunders
Incarnate by Jodi Meadows

Serious moonlight by Jenn Bennett
Lily’s just fine by Gill Stewart

Meat market by Juno Dawson
The paper and hearts society by Lucy Powrie
Rose, interrupted by Patrice Lawrence
All the things we never said by Yasmin Rahman

Library books
Radio silence by Alice Oseman
The rest of us just live here by Patrick Ness
Caraval by Stephanie Garber

There you have it! I am hoping to be able to keep up this ban the best that I can. I might slip up here or there but I will try my hardest. Have you put yourself on any kind of spending ban? How did you find it? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for reading!

  1. Personally, for me, I find that book bans never work but instead I made a promise to only purchase books that I really really want to read and so far I’ve been buying way fewer books. Meat Market (I just got a copy today) and The Paper and Hearts Society are two books I cannot wait to finally read!

  2. I’ve put myself on a book buying ban too, and one of the reasons is because I want to use my village library more. It makes so much sense and it is currently stocking some new releases which is pretty exciting. I’m also in the process of getting ready for YALC and I want to control the amount of books I obtain before then because I know from last year that I might go a bit overboard.
