”Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.
Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.
But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?
Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.
Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.
But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?
What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?
What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?
But what if it is? “
I have to admit that I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump recently and I’ve actually been reading this since it was released mid october. However, I loved it!! It’s everything I love about YA – LGBT, a collaboration and just so heartwarming. I have read two of Becky’s books, Simon versus the homo sapiens agenda and Leah on the offbeat, and honestly she just keeps getting better and better. You can tell straight away that it’s written in part by her, I’d guess she wrote the character of Arthur because honestly who else could come up with a character who sought someone out via a poster in a coffee shop, considering her other character Simon found love via anonymous emails. I’ve never read anything by Adam but I really enjoyed this book and knowing he wrote half of it I want to read one of his own books.
I will say I found it a bit slow in the beginning, not helped by my reading slump. I think it was because there was a bit of a build up to them reuniting so not a lot happened. However, once it got to the part where they reunite it is absolutely incredible. It’s so funny and heartwarming and slightly sad and heartbreaking in parts. One thing that YA does to me is takes me through all of the emotions. Arthur and Ben’s relationship is messy but sweet and romantic and I love that it’s like something out of a movie but it’s not at the same time. It gives a really romantic vibe whilst showing that relationships aren’t always perfect and don’t always work out the way you hope. I also loved the focus on family and friendships which is another element that I love in YA. I even ended up listening to the Hamilton soundtrack from beginning to end as a result of this book.
