Floored by Holly Bourne, Sara Barnard, Lisa Williamson, Non Pratt, Melinda Salisbury, Tanya Byrne and Eleanor Wood

“When they got in the lift, they were strangers (though didn’t that guy used to be on TV?): Sasha, who is desperately trying to deliver a parcel; Hugo, who knows he’s the best-looking guy in the lift and is eyeing up Velvet, who knows what that look means when you hear her name and it doesn’t match the way she looks, or the way she talks; Dawson, who was on TV, but isn’t as good-looking as he was a few years ago and is desperately hoping no one recognizes him; Kaitlyn, who’s losing her sight but won’t admit it, and who used to have a poster of Dawson on her bedroom wall, and Joe, who shouldn’t be here at all, but who wants to be here the most.

And one more person, who will bring them together again on the same day every year.”

I was really excited when I heard this book was being released. I am very into multiple POVs so to have seven was really exciting, particularly I’ve read books by a few of the authors before and loved them as well as the rest being new to me. The book itself doesn’t reveal which author wrote which character but My Kinda Book did a reveal for YALC so I did get to find out who wrote what. I actually tried to take a little bit of a punt and thought that Holly had written Dawson and Sara had written Kaitlyn. I was actually right about Sara but Holly actually wrote Hugo which actually surprised me. Tanya was the background narrator, Non Pratt was Sasha, Melinda was Dawson, Lisa was Joe, and Eleanor was Velvet.
I did love this book overall. I just loved the eclectic mix of characters, Hugo included at the end, and how their diferences made their friendship what it was. I loved all the characters throughout the book, so much so I don’t think I can choose a favourite, although I had a particular soft spot for Joe. I also loved that it was spread over five years so you could see the changes year by year and a lot did change for all of them. I just loved the character development for all of them. However, I will say that although I loved the book as a whole, there was just something missing. Although I loved the character development, I felt like there could have been more of it and that some of the stories didn’t get as much time to develop as I thought that they could have. It was a good book overall though and I would highly recommend it.
