The mid year book freakout tag

Hi everyone! So I know we are over half way through the year but I found this tag on don’t bend the spine and just knew I had to do it! I’ve read so many books this year already so I thought it would be fun to kind of reflect on that and share that with you.

Best book you’ve read so far in 2018 – Oh my god I’ve read so many good books already this year but it would definitely be a toss up between the exact opposite of okay, Simon versus the home sapiens agenda and Small great things.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018 – I actually haven’t read that many sequels this year, but out of the ones I have read i would have to say what’s a girl gotta do by Holly Bourne. This was actually the third book in a series but I still class it as a sequel and it’s gotta be the best after the first book of the series.

New release you haven’t read yet but want to – How do you like me now by Holly Bourne. I am just obsessed with her to be honest and after hearing she was bringing out an adult novel I knew I had to read it so I’m a bit gutted I haven’t done so yet. I’m also gutted I haven’t read Leah on the offbeat too.

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year – I am seriously excited for when the curtain falls by Carrie Hope Fletcher. I read her first two books last year and have been in Love with her books ever since so hearing she had a book out this year made me really excited.

Biggest disappointment – Our chemical hearts by Krystal Sutherland. I just found it too cheesy and there was nothing majorly substantial to the plot and the characters were quite superficial, they had no real depth.
Biggest surprise – I would probably say Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine. I bought it mainly because of the hype and at first I wasn’t 100% sure I would enjoy it but I was actually pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying it.

Favourite new author (debut or new to you) – I loved Laura Stevens debut novel The exact opposite of okay so I am excited to read more from her in the future.

Newest fictional crush – I don’t think I actually have one in honesty.

Newest favourite character – Ooh there are so many characters! If I had to choose I would probably say Izzy from The exact opposite of okay as she is just so badass and yet heartwarming. I feel like everyone needs an Izzy in their life.

Book that made you cry – I have to admit books don’t really make me cry so I don’t really have an answer to this question. Dream a little dream by Giovanna Fletcher was slightly emotional though.

Book that made you happy – Simon versus the homo sapiens agenda! It made me all fuzzy inside whilst reading it, particularly when I got to the end.

Favourite book to film adaptation you’ve seen this year – So I haven’t read the book and it’s actually the only adaptation I have seen this year but I absolutely loved The DUFF. It was just a fun film and I would be interested in reading the book.

Favourite review you’ve written this year – I have so many! Book reviews are what make up a large portion of my blog, particularly this year, as I just love writing them and sharing my thoughts on the books I’ve read. I don’t have one specific review that I love but I do love writing book reviews for the blogger book nook that I take part in every month so I would say my favourite of them that I’ve written this year would be books to screen as it was a fun prompt.

Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year – Again, I have so many! The girl of ink and stars is a really beautiful book, especially as it has illustrations on the pages. Although I didn’t buy it as I borrowed it from the library, I also loved the cover of Ink as it is simplistic but beautiful.

What books do you need to read by the end of this year – I actually wrote a list of books I wanted to read this year as I have a tendency to add books to my TBR and never end up getting round to reading them. Some of the books I am desperate to read by the end of this year include how do you like me now, and a happy New year, Leah on the offbeat and the extinction trials.

I really enjoyed doing this tag and hope others decide to do it. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for reading!

Abbie. X
