Blogger book book #10: Summer romance

Hi everyone! Welcome to another book book prompt. I don’t think I can say enough how much I love being a part of this every month. I just love reading anyway and I one sharing my reads. So I won’t lie, I’ve cheated a little for this month’s post as I actually read a romance novel last month that I finished just as this prompt was announced.

I also have been in a little bit of a reading slump so I’m seeking to get through books as quickly as I am used to doing which has meant I haven’t left myself much time to read a book for this months prompt. I also struggled to choose a book, so with all that in mind I am reviewing You’re the one that I want by Giovanna Fletcher.

“Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end of the aisle is Rob – the man she’s about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben – best man and the best friend any two people ever had.

And that’s the problem.

Because if it wasn’t Rob waiting for her at the altar, there’s a strong chance it would be Ben. Loyal and sensitive Ben has always kept his feelings to himself, but if he turned round and told Maddy she was making a mistake, would she listen? And would he be right?
Best friends since childhood, Maddy, Ben and Rob thought their bond was unbreakable. But love changes everything. Maddy has a choice to make but will she choose wisely? Her heart, and the hearts of the two best men she knows, depend on it…”

Rating: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

So I have to say that this was the only book by Giovanna Fletcher that I hadn’t read and although I still liked it, it was probably my least favourite. I enjoyed it because I loved the dynamics between maddy, Ben and Rob especially in the earlier years. I also liked that it was written fr on Maddy and Ben’s point of view although I would have l liked to have heard Robs at times. I also liked that you saw them all develop from children to adults.

However, I found it quite predictable. I just didn’t think it had much going on at times. It was just their life story, it felt like you were just going through the motions when reading it. I did like how it ended though, with them all being happy with how their lives turned out which was a bonus I guess.

Q1. Are you a fan of the classic summer romance read? Or do you tend to pick up another genre when you go on holiday? – I have found a new love for romance novels recently so I would say I am a fan and I think they make the perfect holiday read as they are light hearted and whimsical. However, I wouldn’t limit myself to this genre when on holiday.

Q2. Who’s your favourite romance author & what’s your favourite book written by them? Why? – Regardless of this book, I do love Giovanna Fletcher. I’m actually torn over which book I love by her the most but I think Billy and Me is my all time favourite as it is so idealistic and it’s just a fun and dreamt book.

Q3. Love triangles.. yay or nay? – Not really. I think that’s one of the things I didn’t particularly like about this book as there was a slight love triangle. I just feel like they end up being cheesy and I just like a simple romance.

Q4. If you were stranded on an island, what book WOULDN’T you want to be stuck with? – I would probably say catcher in the rye. It is the complete opposite of the sort of books that I love and if I was stranded on an island I would want to read something that would make me happy which this book wouldn’t do.

Q5. If you were a character in a romance novel, what would be your ideal/dream love story? – I would love to be a bit like Sophie from Billy and Me, living in a small town and falling in love when I’m least expecting it.

Have you read You’re the one that I want? Are you a fan of romance? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.

Thanks for reading!

Abbie. X
